Description:
Offered is an antique oval brass belt plate bearing the raised letters “CS” surrounded by a border of stars.
This pattern is associated with Confederate States military equipment used during the American Civil War.

The plate is constructed in the typical Confederate style with a cast brass face and simple reverse hardware.
The back retains two belt hooks at the top and a single tongue catch at the bottom used to secure the plate
to a leather waist belt.

Confederate belt plates such as this were worn by soldiers serving in the Confederate States Army between
1861 and 1865. Due to the limited industrial manufacturing capability in the South during the war, many of
these buckles were produced by small regional foundries using sand-casting methods, resulting in variations
in finish and detail.

The star border design surrounding the “CS” letters is one of the recognizable Confederate buckle styles
from the Civil War period and remains popular among collectors of American Civil War militaria.

Condition: Good antique condition showing natural age patina and honest wear. The belt hooks and catch on
the reverse remain intact and functional. The plate displays well with attractive surface character.

Period: Circa 1861-1865
Material: Brass
Origin: Confederate States of America
Design: “CS” monogram with star border
