Made c880 then Converted by Crull in Wabash, IN Circa the Mid-20th Century
Here Ancestry Guns presents a very scarce C&R Alonzo Crull Converted Colt Single Action Army Revolver, manufactured circa 1880 in Hartford, Connecticut. Crull was famous for his craftsmanship and specifically his conversion of SAAs into .22 rimfire. Serial numbers from the factory that remain on the gun date to 1880. The barrel and cylinder are not sleeved but bored from a solid piece of steel. It features a round barrel with a matted rib that has a front sight blade and nicely figured, two-piece walnut grips. The action is very nice with a crisp trigger.
The gunsmith, Alonzo Crull of Wabash, Indiana, is ranked with the likes of Tommy Haas and George Matthews for his restoration ability as well as converting first generation Single Action Army Colts to .22 rimfire. Crull’s craftsmanship is a testament to his skill as a gunsmith and his dedication to preserve the legacy of Colt firearms! This is a very neat, very rare example of serious skill. Crull’s work on Colt firearms is highly regarded among collectors of Colt handguns and are known not only for their aesthetic appeal, but also their superb craftsmanship with lightweight barrels and many featuring unique sights.
The overall condition is fine. Original finish to the conversion. The action is excellent and holds all positions and has all four clicks. The bore is shiny bright with strong rifling. The original Colt serial numbers are the same on the frame and trigger guard. The grips are solid.
