Description:
English Baker flintlock rifled carbine with 20 1/4" round 7-groove barrel brass furniture and walnut stocks. Bore size is believed to be .65 diameter. This is the shorter carbine variant or "cavalry rifle" variant of the famous early 19th century Baker rifle with a swivel mounted captive ramrod, sling bar, safety on the lock, brass patchbox and no provisions for a bayonet. The lock is marked Tower with a crown over the lewtters GR. Both the barrel and lock are marked with british proofmarks. The forestock features a "slit stock" design and is considered the 4th pattern introduced after 1810. The slit stock prevented the ramrod from jamming due to residue.

The condition is good overall. The firearm is mechanically fine. The bore is very good with sharp lands and grooves and little if any rust or pitting.   Cosmetially, the rifle has minor dings and nicks in the stock consistent with period use. A few of the screws have been manipulated at some point and may be replacements. The screw holding on the slingbar is not correct and much too long.

Outside of the proof marks and Towers marks on the lock, there is a 1A stamped on the top of the brass buttplate. This may be an arsenal marking and is believed to be a period. Manufactured crica 1810-1815.
