This is a plain, but attractive little tip-up rifle that is equipped with a simple mechanical extractor that rides in a vertical mortise mounted on the left side of the receiver, triple leaf rear sight, and low bead front sight. The metal has an overall plum-brown patina with silvering at the muzzle, along the edges of the barrel facets, and some areas of minor pitting along the edges of the wedge-fastened forend. The left barrel flat is marked, "380 CF", while the top flat is marked, "JOHN RIGBY & Co. LONDON & DUBLIN". The barrel lock-up is still fairly tight, although there is a small amount of lateral play when closed, and the action is fully functional. The checkered English walnut forend is in very good shape, and has light-moderate flattening the points, as well as scattered handling marks and surface blemishes throughout. The gracefully slender pistol gripped buttstock has matching wear to the forend, and exhibits attractive feathering and grain. The steel buttplate has some mild pinprick pitting in addition to the plum-brown freckling. This is a nice little rook rifle in fine mechanical condition. Antique; SOLD Antique: Yes |
