Description: Serial #NSN, 12 Gauge, 30 inch Laminated Steel barrels with fine, mostly bright bores with light roughness which is slightly more pronounced in the right barrel. This is a Birmingham, England proofed double hammer shotgun manufactured by W. Richards circa 1870's. Not built by the famous Westley Richards this is a high quality English gun, less seldom seen and not the often encountered Belgian proofed version. This example remains in fine condition with the barrels showing much of the original browned twist pattern with some scattered use marks and light impact marks on the left muzzle. It is marked "LAMINATED STEEL" on the rib with both side plates marked "W.Richards" and has Birmingham proofs on the barrel flats and receiver. The frame and hammers has aged to an even pewter-gray with some original case-color under the lever and shows the very nice engraving. The checkered stock and forearm are both solid with an old repair to a toe showing numerous old marks and contusions and has a chip in the original hard rubber butt plate. The lock up is tight with barrels on face with the hammers holding at half and full cock releasing with crisp trigger pull. A well built and great looking antique double hammer shotgun. Antique.
