The Smith & Wesson Model 39-2 is a classic semi-automatic pistol that represents the refined "second iteration" of the first American-designed double-action/single-action (DA/SA) handgun. Produced between 1971 and 1983, the 39-2 addressed early reliability issues and became the most common variant of the Model 39 lineage. It is highly regarded by collectors for its slim, ergonomic profile and historical significance as the precursor to the "Wonder Nine" era. The 39-2 introduced a shorter, coil-spring-actuated extractor and an improved feed ramp to better handle modern hollow-point ammunition compared to the original Model 39.
