“LONDON” Mid-1800s SIDEHAMMER Coat/Pocket Pistol
Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique Engraved British Sidehammer Boxlock Percussion Pistol, made circa the 1850s in London, England. This little self-defense pistol would have been most at home in a gentleman’s coat pocket or tucked into the belt of anyone in the busy cities of Europe during the mid-1800s. With its .50 caliber “manstopping” bore, this pistol would have been quite the deterrent against ne’er do wells and ruffians roaming the city streets in tumultuous Europe in the early to mid-1800s.
This one is an upscale version with engraving and an initialed German silver thumb plate in addition to thoughtful features like the captive ramrod, the belthook, and the cap trap in the pommel of the grip.
The overall condition is very good. Patina throughout. The action is crisp and excellent. The bore is smooth and patinated. The grip is solid. London proofed.
