Condition: 2 ½” barrel with a very nice lightly oxidized bore and showing very strong rifling. The metal surfaces still retain most of the original nickel plate with light oxidation in spots , some very light scratches and handling marks.
Original hard rubber factory grips are in very good condition . They feature a floral design around the escutcheons and the F&W banner on the top are in good condition with some wear to the top of the left grip. Please judge from the photos. All the appropriate parts are correctly numbered to the gun. Double and single action appear to work very well . lock-up has just a little bit of cylinder play and like most 100 year old revolvers timing may be a little off and may need minor adjustment if to be used but then again these are made for Black powder low pressure cartrifdges only. The current condition of the item listed has been described to the best of my ability . Please examine the photos and text thoroughly for description and condition.
Forehand Arms had produced a nice quality firearm and when Hopkins and Allen company had a factory fire in 1900 they acquired the Forehand Arms Co. This acquisition gave H&A a much improved product line. The new machinery dramatically improved the line and enabled them to produce a low priced good quality product able to compete with Iver Johnson and H&R.
Revolvers of this type were widely sold as affordable personal-protection arms during the period when American catalog retailers supplied rural customers with firearms through mail-order sales. Today, Forehand Arms Co. revolvers represent an interesting example of the late-Victorian era American firearms trade and the widespread distribution of inexpensive revolvers through catalog houses and hardware merchants across the country.
