Description:
If you love the Browning Hi Power as much as I do, you know exactly what this pistol is simply by looking at its serial number. It’s one of the desirable “T Series” Hi Powers of the 1960s. Often heralded as the high-water mark of Belgian production, the T series are thought to be the last of the hand polished (as opposed to machine polished) Hi Powers, whereby human beings polished by hand every facet, nook and cranny of the slide and frame prior to bluing. The flats are gloriously flat; the polish level is high; and the bluing therefore rich and deep. Original French Walnut red back/interior grips.

This particular Hi Power was manufactured in 1966, and all date codes (slide, barrel, etc.) are so marked. Though not pristine, showing signs of usage, the pistol presents really well, with what I would estimate to be 95-98% bluing. What blemishes exist are minor and I will describe them in detail later. Visually, the pictures tell the story of a high condition Hi Power and the bore is simply a mirror. The gun is unmolested in terms of having its magazine disconnect safety in place and while I have thoroughly disassembled to clean and lubricate, the hammer, sear, etc. are exactly as shipped by FN – no modifications have been made to anything. I have put approximately 100 rounds through the gun with no malfunctions whatsoever.

Insofar as blemishes to an otherwise beautiful finish: Someone firing the pistol apparently wore a ring with made some very shallow surface scratches in the bluing on the front strap of the grip frame. These actually photograph worse than they appear in the real world where from many angles they seem to disappear depending on how the light reflects. There is also some bluing loss on the peak of the trigger guard and underside of the dust cover of the frame, which I’m guessing came from someone shotting over a rest of some sort. I don’t know – I see a lot of Hi Powers with bluing loss on the trigger guard like that and have always wondered why. At any rate, it’s bluing rubbed away, not deep scratches in the steel. Could be touched up, but I have never wanted to modify this pistol in any way. Perhaps most of note, there is a small area of what appears to be very shallow surface oxidation on the slide behind the rear sight. I have kept that area well oiled and it is limited to that one spot, so I’m guessing some offending chemical got on the gun before someone stored it in its original red lined Browning pistol pouch (which comes with the gun).

All in all, this is an eye-catcher of a classic period commercial production Browning Hi Power. It was the first Hi Power I ever bought and is only being sold because I have replaced it in my collection with one I wish to modify a bit and I’m just not interested in modifying a vintage Hi Power this nice.

Any questions? Feel free to reach out – I’m happy to answer any questions you might have. As mentioned, original red-lined Browning leather pistol pouch is included. Buyer pays $60 for UPS shipping and the gun is C&R eligible if you are a C&R license holder. Otherwise it will need to ship to your FFL.
