This Beretta S3 sidelock over/under, produced in 1948, represents one of the earliest and most significant models in Beretta’s prestigious S-series lineage—the foundation that would later evolve into the legendary SO guns. Built as a true sidelock with double triggers, ejectors, cocking indicators, and non-automatic safety, the S3 reflects traditional best-gun design combined with Beretta’s renowned mechanical precision. The 27.75" barrels, choked Modified (.029") and Full (.041"), are well-suited for both field use and classic driven shooting. At just over 7 pounds, with elegant proportions and a solid matted rib, the gun offers lively handling with a refined sighting plane.
This example, serial number 6218, remains in good overall condition with light wear consistent with age. The bores are clear, triggers are crisp, and the action locks up tight, with ejectors functioning properly. The coin-finished sidelock action is beautifully adorned with rose and scroll engraving, showcasing the understated elegance typical of early Beretta best guns. The barrels retain most of their original blue, and the straight-grip walnut stock displays attractive grain and classic lines.
