Description:
The Smith & Wesson Model 686-3, produced between 1988 and 1993, is a "Distinguished Combat Magnum" built on the medium-large stainless steel L-Frame. It is highly regarded by collectors as one of the best versions of the 686 because it retains classic features like the hammer-mounted firing pin while incorporating critical durability upgrades. The "-3" suffix denotes the following specific engineering modifications during the production life of the 686: The New Yoke Retention System introduced in 1988, this modification improved the cylinder's structural integrity and alignment during heavy use. Last of the "Classic" "-3" build was the final revision to feature in-house made wooden stocks before the transition to rubber Hogue grips in 1994. Traditional Components retained the hammer-mounted firing pin and forged hammer/trigger, which were replaced by MIM (Metal Injection Molded) parts and frame-mounted firing pins in later revisions. .357 Magnum
