This is a beautiful and historically significant Westley Richards 1864 Patent Bar-in-Wood Pinfire Shotgun dating to circa 1865. It features 29" twist Damascus barrels that have been expertly rebrowned, displaying a vivid and attractive pattern. The top rib is signed with the early London address “170 New Bond Street.”
The action is the desirable Westley Richards patent single-bite bar-in-wood design with waisted top-lever, clearly marked with patent number 2623 of 1864 and use number “5” on the breech face. The borderline engraved bar-action locks and hammers retain crisp signatures and engraving.
The walnut stock has been very well restored (possibly period work by the makers), featuring a chequered wrist, crab-claw hinge joint, and a chequered splinter fore-end with horn tip. The gun balances and handles beautifully.

Condition is extremely fine after restoration: bright bores, crisp legends, vivid Damascus pattern, and mechanically excellent throughout. It is housed in its original canvas-covered mahogany case with green baize lining, solid partitions, and original parchment maker’s and instruction labels.

A rare and elegant example of mid-Victorian English gunmaking by one of London’s premier makers. Perfect for collectors of fine pinfire shotguns or Victorian-era firearms. Click “Buy It Now” or contact me today!
