Description:
The Mauser Model 1896 “Broomhandle” is a semi-automatic pistol chambered in 7.63mm (.30 Mauser). This example is the later Bolo configuration produced in Germany between 1923 and 1930, featuring a shortened 3.9-inch barrel and steel frame with a black finish. It uses a fixed internal magazine loaded via stripper clips and has adjustable rear sights. The pistol retains the characteristic integral receiver/barrel design and wooden grips finished in brown.
This pistol is used. The bore condition is poor, with rifling no longer visible. The barrel and receiver show a re-blued finish that remains intact but displays surface scratches, and evidence of prior buffing. The frame finish is also a re-blue, showing similar buffing marks and roughness beneath the surface. External serial numbers are matching, while the floorplate is mismatched. A faint Crown “U” proof mark appears on the left side of the barrel shank, and the hammer carries an “NS” marking. The grooved hardwood grips are replacement pieces that fit loosely but show minimal wear. The lanyard ring is absent, and the action cycles, though sluggishly.
No internal inspection was performed. No accessories or additional components are included with the pistol. This Mauser Bolo variant reflects the transitional post-war production period of the Model 1896, retaining its original mechanical layout and distinctive appearance despite later refinishing and replacement grips.
