Description:
The Colt M1911A1, the refined successor to the original M1911, is a full-sized, single action semi-automatic pistol chambered in .45 ACP. Adopted as the standard U.S. military sidearm in 1926, it remained in service until 1985. It is renowned for its all steel construction, which provides the durability and heft needed to manage the recoil of the powerful caliber round. The "A1" designation indicates several external ergonomic improvements over the original 1911 design. The straight housing was replaced with a curved one to better fit the palm and improve pointing. The trigger was shortened and the frame behind it was cut away (relief cuts) to accommodate shooters with smaller hands. A longer tang was added to the grip safety to prevent "hammer bite"—the hammer pinching the shooter's hand during the recoil cycle. None
