Payment Types Accepted: Checks, Money Orders or Credit Card with Service Fee Description: Ron Nott (1941–2010) was a self-taught engraver who got started early by doodling on his school notebooks. His artwork centered around flowing intertwined scrollwork. His fascination with this art matured when he discovered a book on engraved firearms. A ball-peen hammer and a chisel were the tools that started his lifelong engraving career. Many professional engravers gave him encouragement and tips along the way. I had the good fortune of knowing Ron and watching him work as we chatted. Rons’ skill was eventually recognized with his Master Certification by the Engravers Guild of America. He also became a Colt Master Engraver but preferred to work for the owner directly because he didn’t like the small fee Colt paid him. This SAA Revolver is a beautiful example of Rons’ talent. It is engraved in his signature deep relief scroll accented with his unique background. Rarher than the quick and easy dot punched background, Ron used the finest striations and cross hatching in his backgrounds. The left recoil shield is signed “R.P. NOTT”, and shown in photo number 19. The major components are framed by 14k gold wire inlay. The ejector rod, Cylinder Pin, Trigger Guard, Backstrap and Hammer are tastefully 14k gold plated. You can bet Gold was not priced around $5000 per oz when this was made. The color case hardened frame and blued components are nicely contrasted by the Ivory grips. It is presented in a locking walnut case marked Colt. The condition is flawless; this is clearly an investment grade collectable that transcends the line from Firearm to Artwork. Caliber .45 with a 7 ½” barrel. Serial Number: 82372SA, FFL REQUIRED.
