See description Payment Types Accepted: US Postal Money Order, Certified Check Description: This is an all original Kimber of Oregon (KoO) Model 82B, chambered in .22 Long Rifle, manufactured in 1989 at the Clackamus, OR plant. A brief overview of the company history and the Model 82 development is as follows....Greg Warne incorporated KoO in 1979 to produce a high quality adult .22 rifle, the Kimber Model 82. The first rifle was shipped in 1980, and his father, Jack Warne, joined the company shortly thereafter. Kimber quickly built a reputation for accurate .22 Long Rifle caliber rifles, and began to expand the product line. It was this success, combined with customer demand, that urged the company into producing the long action Big Game Rifle (BGR) in 1989. The company’s production demand overmatched its capability, and Kimber of Oregon began to struggle financially after a private stock offering fell short of covering the development costs of the BGR. This ultimately forced Greg & Jack Warne to sell Kimber, and Oregon timber magnate/investor Bruce Engel stepped in to rescue the company. Engel had difficulty running Kimber, and soon sought bankruptcy protection. In an effort to reduce costs and create greater efficiencies, the Kimber stock options were reduced from five offerings in 1988 (Classic, Custom Classic, Continental, Super Continental, & Super America) to three offerings in 1989 (Deluxe Grade, Continental, & Super Grade). This change was exclusive of the 82 Government Target Model, which was designed for the US Army and continued in production each of these years. As a result, all Kimber of Oregon rifles (82, 84, & 89) manufactured in 1989 were offered with only two stock options (exclusive of the Continental), either the Deluxe Grade or the Super Grade. The 1989 Super Grade was essentially the same high quality product as the 1988 Super America. Then, in 1990, as part of an effort to revitalize the brand and bolster sales, the Super America moniker was reintroduced (without the Super America receiver roll markings), and again the Model 82 was offered with only two stock options, the Deluxe Grade & the Super America Grade. That same year, Kimber lost several talented employees, including Dan Cooper, who left to found Cooper Firearms of Montana. Rushed production & financial woes in 1990 resulted in the gradual deterioration of wood, metal finishing, and assembly quality, and in 1991 Jack Warne left Kimber to found Warne Manufacturing, producing a new scope mounting system. Owner Bruce Engle was soon forced to liquidate and sell Kimber of Oregon, and the plant doors were finally closed in 1991. Greg Warne later became part of Kimber of America, before being bought out by one of his Kimber of America partners. So, during the 1989 production year, the Kimber Model 82 Super Grade rifles remained the same high quality products as the previous year, with identical features as the Super America grade, but without the Super America roll markings on the receiver or the SA serialization prefix. These standard features include: a hand selected, "AAA" fancy claro walnut stock with an ebony forend tip; a beaded cheekpiece; scalloped underside forearm; full coverage, borderless checkering with 22 lines per inch; a Niedner type checkered steel buttplate; fully inletted sling swivel bases; a round top receiver with screw on two piece bases; a rocker-style safety; and a 5 shot magazine. An optional feature on this rifle is the factory installed #1250 barrel quarter rib with express style open rear sights & hooded front ramp with bead sight. The above information about stock offerings in 1988, 1989, & 1990 was gathered from the Kimber of Oregon catalogs and pricing sheets for those years. This particular rifle has been fired only a few times, less than 50 rounds, so there is plenty of barrel life remaining. It has beautiful wood and, unlike many others, the ebony forend tip is pitch black without shade variations or streaks. I am the original owner, a private individual and a non-FFL holder, who purchased the rifle when it was new. It has been stored in a controlled environment safe for 37 year, always well cared for and never hunted. There is a minor safe ding on the ebony forend tip, which is shown in photo #7. The original box with matching end label, a set of Kimber #4005 double lever 1" rings, and a collectable Kimber of Oregon rifle sock are included. It's a tack driver and an American Beauty! I accept USPS postal money orders & Zelle payments. Buyer pays actual shipping & insurance costs to your FFL. Please email with any questions or for additional photos. SOLD |
