Here Ancestry Guns presents a Factory Cased Nikko Golden Eagle Model 5000 Field Grade II 12 Gauge Over/Under Double Barrel Hammerless Shotgun, manufactured circa 1975 to 1981 in Tochigi, Japan. The iconic Winchester Model 101 is a shotgun with legendary styling and handling and the unquestionable reliability you expect from Winchester firearms, but they weren’t actually made by Winchester. Production took place in Japan at the Olin-Kodensha factory in Tochigi, Japan and Kodensha just happened to have a subsidiary, Nikko, which just happened to have a factory next door which just happened to produce shotguns that were very much like the Winchester 101 (though some say that the engraving and wood work was higher quality at Nikko). In fact, it has long been speculated that the parts for the Nikko 5000 models were actually produced at the Kodensha plant and taken to the Nikko building for final fit, finish and assembly.
This example was imported by Golden Eagle Firearms in the late ’70s or early ’80s and looks like it has spent many the intervening time in its original shipping carton. It is a Grade II model with 30” barrels and chambered for 2 ¾” 12 gauge shells.
The overall condition is fine. Original finish. The action is excellent. The bores are shiny bright and smooth. The stock is nicely figured and solid. Comes with its original hardcase. A very handsome shotgun!
