This is a US-inspected carbine that retains 90-95% of the original bright blue, with traces of mild freckling at the muzzle and on a few spots along the barrel. The frame has 85-90% of the original color case-hardening that carries over onto the hammer, lockplate, and barrel band, with the balance turned to a smooth plum-brown patina. No Stabler cut-off switch has been fitted. The walnut forend and buttstock have only minor handling marks in the otherwise excellent original military oil finish, and the "EAW" (Elijah A. Williams) and "DAP" (Dwight A. Perkins) inspector cartouches are crisp and clear on the left side of the wrist. There is also a unit marking or number stamped on top of the receiver, "01", C1" ? The magazine tube is in excellent shape with a functional spring and follower and the mechanism is still tight and fully functional. Of the 30,000 1865 Carbines built this is one of the 16,000 that were built with out the cut-off. This is an excellent Indian Wars Era Spencer overall. Antique; SOLD Antique: Yes |
