1916 Enfield No. 1 Mk III SMLE - .303 British - Original WW1 Military Configuration
For sale is a genuine World War I-era Royal Small Arms Factory Enfield No. 1 Mark III (Short Magazine Lee-Enfield / SMLE) bolt-action rifle chambered in .303 British. This rifle was manufactured in 1916, during the height of World War I, and served as a standard-issue British infantry rifle.
This example remains in its original military configuration — it has not been sporterized. It retains the full-length walnut stock, handguards, correct barrel length, military rear sight with protective ears, sling swivels, and all the classic Lee-Enfield features that made it one of the fastest and most reliable bolt-action rifles of its time.
Key markings include:
Crown over GR / ENFIELD 1916 / Sht. L.E. III* on the receiver
Serial number 86939 (visible on the receiver and stock)
Smooth Lee-Enfield bolt with 10-round magazine capacity
The .303 British cartridge is still widely available and affordable, making this a great rifle for range shooting, plinking, or as a historical piece. The action is famously smooth and fast — a hallmark of the SMLE design that allowed trained soldiers to achieve a high rate of fire.
