Description:
CASPIAN ARMS M1911 Pattern .45 ACP Semi-Auto SELF DEFENSE Pistol Colt

Fitted with a COLT GOVERNMENT MODEL Slide

Here Ancestry Guns presents a Caspian Arms Model 1911 Pattern Semi-Automatic Pistol, made circa the late 1990s to the early 2000s in Wolcott, Vermont. Caspian Arms has been in operation since the late 1980s working out of a rustic building in Wolcott ran by its founder, Cal Foster. Foster operated a machine shop in the mid-1970s building components for gun manufacturers such as Randall, Detonics, and Viking. Detonics and Randall were showing signs of weakness and finally collapsed in 1983. This was bad news for Foster because they were his bread and butter customers. By then he had developed an extensive background in making components for the .45 caliber Model 1911, so he decided to expand sales to commercial, law enforcement and military customers. Foster and his brother brainstormed over a name for the company and settled on Caspian Arms Limited, since it spelled out his name, had a nice ring, and incorporated the name of a pristine lake not far from his Vermont factory.

Caspian placed their major focus on the production of high quality 1911 components for shooters who wanted to build their own custom gun. At the time, competition shooters were buying a few modern components to fix up old .45's, but slides and frames were not yet considered as custom components. Foster’s business model included US-only production from US-produced material. This was at the time practically every American company began outsourcing to China and elsewhere. Foster insisted on owning all of the tooling used to make forgings, castings and other parts. His logic was if he owned the tooling, he and only he would have control over what was produced. Foster decided to anchor his customer base with a forever warranty. No matter who owns it, or how they got it, if it breaks on its own, Caspian replaces it.

The overall condition is good. Original finish is present on the frame. The Colt slide is refinished. Excellent action. Fine grips. Markings are sharp. Shiny bright bore.
