Description:
Italian Sidelock SxS – Model “Monte Carlo” – 1954 – 28 1/4” Barrels – Live Pigeon Style
High quality Italian full sidelock side-by-side, Model “Monte Carlo,” built in 1954 (Date Code “X”). This gun exhibits many of the desirable features found on fine continental live pigeon guns from the early post-war period.
The lockwork is of Holland & Holland pattern with intercepting safety sears, showing excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail. The action is tastefully engraved with floral and ribbon scroll, complemented by a silver pigeon inlaid on the top rib, reinforcing its live bird heritage.
Mechanically, the gun is excellent—tight on face with no loose ribs, and fitted with a double underbite and Purdey-style third fastener for a strong, secure lockup. It is equipped with disc-set firing pins and a manual safety.
The barrels measure 28 1/4" with mirror bores, choked tight for pigeon shooting:
  • Right barrel: .722 bore with Full choke (.032)
  • Left barrel: .726 bore with Extra Full choke (.046)
Stock dimensions and features:
  • Length of Pull: 14 7/16"
  • Drop at Comb: 1 1/2"
  • Drop at Heel: 2 3/16"
  • Straight grip stock with long trigger guard tang
  • Ivory teardrop in the stock
  • Vacant stock shield
  • Well-figured walnut with attractive grain
  • Plugged swivel holes
Overall condition is very strong:
  • No cracks in the wood
  • No loose ribs
  • Sharp mechanics and clean bores
This is a classic example of an early Italian post-war sidelock built for live pigeon shooting—well-balanced at 6 lbs 13 1/2 oz, with the handling and durability expected of the type.
