Description:
"NSN. Manufactured circa 1862 by Springfield Armory, chambered in .58 caliber,40"" round rifled barrel. The metal has thinned to a smooth brown/grey patina consistent with age and service use. Factory proof and inspector marks remain sharp, with the barrel tang and lock plate both dated 1862. A crisp Eagle/U.S./SPRINGFIELD marking is present forward of the hammer. The Model 1861 was the primary U.S. infantry arm of the Civil War, widely issued to Union forces and produced in large quantities at Springfield and by contractors. The stock shows light handling and usage marks while remaining in very good condition. The action holds at both half and full cock, remaining mechanically functional. The musket is equipped with a “U.S." marked socket bayonet.
