"NSN. Manufactured circa 1864 by Amoskeag Manufacturing Company, chambered in .58 caliber,40"" round rifled barrel dated 1863. The barrel remains in the bright with light mottled oxidation noted, most visible around the nipple and bolster area. The lock plate is dated 1864 with factory markings remaining sharp and clearly legible. Amoskeag muskets were produced under U.S. contract during the Civil War to supplement federal arsenals, and are representative of wartime industrial expansion to meet military demand. The stock is good, showing minimal handling impressions while retaining a solid overall appearance. The action holds at both half and full cock, remaining mechanically functional. The musket is accompanied by a U.S.-marked socket bayonet.
