Description:
This is a Colt 1911 earliest production pistol that was used for inspector's training on the shop floor at Colt. The slide is pre-production as shown by the Colt address which is much larger than the normal guns. The small parts are original Colt fire blue. The slide is high polished but was a "rejected" part for military use because the firing pin recess is cut too far up so that there is no room for the "H" marking. This is shown in the pictures. The frame has multiple WPG proofs so this frame was clearly used as training aid for new inspectors. It is high polish but was never blued. Likely was rejected for some unknown reason but it works just fine. The barrel is unmarked but is clearly a very early one with nice bore. Because of the serial number's Colt font and square shaped period in No., I believe this gun was serialized at the Colt factory and became an "empoyee gun". I found this gun at a gunshop just minutes from the Colt factory. It had power grit inside and had been fired a fair amount so someone was shooting it. Interesting piece of Colt history.
