The Winchester Model 88 is often called the "bolt-action lever gun" because it combined the classic lever-action handling with the accuracy and high-pressure capabilities of a modern bolt-action rifle. Produced between 1955 and 1973, the 22" barrel version in .308 Winchester is the most iconic and common configuration. The Model 88 was Winchester's answer to the declining popularity of traditional lever guns in the face of modern, high-velocity cartridges.
