This H&R Defender 38 is a classic double-action revolver produced by Harrington & Richardson in .38 S&W caliber, featuring a robust top-break hinged-frame design that allows for quick simultaneous ejection and reloading. Typically equipped with a 4" barrel, it holds 5 rounds and offers a balance of manageable recoil and sufficient defensive power from the mild .38 S&W cartridge, which was popular for its low pressure and compatibility with period ammunition, including the British .380-200 load. Built on a solid frame derived from H&R's Sportsman series, the Defender 38 often includes adjustable sights on earlier models, along with a blued finish and checkered grips for comfortable handling.
