Description:

Winchester Model 12 16GA (1936) Black Diamond – #5 Engraved by Nick Kusmit – RARE Matted Rib – w/ photo of Original Smoke Prints
 Description:
Offered for sale is an exceptional and highly collectible 1936 Winchester Model 12, 16 gauge, featuring a rare combination of factory and custom attributes seldom encountered in the Model 12 world.
This is a Black Diamond configuration gun, upgraded with #5 style engraving by master engraver Nick Kusmit, executed after his retirement from Winchester. The engraving exhibits classic Winchester game scenes with exceptional detail and balance, including:
PAULINE MUERRLE JUST SENT ME AN EMAIL CONFIRMING THAT THIS ENGRAVING IS ATTRIBUTED TO NICK KUSMIT (SEE LAST PHOTO SHOWING THE EMAIL)
  • Right side: Waterfowl in flight over marshland
  • Left side: Upland hunting scene with pointing dogs
  • Surrounded by fine, flowing American scrollwork consistent with high-grade Winchester patterns
 Unique & Important Features:
  • RARE Matted Rib Barrel
A highly unusual feature for the Model 12. True matted ribs are scarcely encountered on these guns. I have only observed three examples—and this is one of them.
  • Photo of the Original Engraving Smoke Prints Included
These prints were used by engravers to preserve and document their work and serve as direct evidence of the hand-cut engraving pattern on this gun.
  • Black Diamond Stock
Correct high-grade walnut with diamond inlay, sharp checkering, and excellent figure. A proper complement to the engraving level.

 Condition:
  • Metal retains strong finish with light, honest handling marks
  • Engraving remains sharp and well-defined throughout
  • Wood is in excellent condition with attractive grain and finish
  • Mechanically excellent—functions as it should
(Please review all photos carefully as they are part of the description.)
Collector Notes:
This is not a standard production Model 12. The combination of:
  • Pre-war manufacture (1936)
  • 16 gauge configuration
  • Black Diamond stock
  • #5 pattern engraving
  • Attribution to Nick Kusmit
  • Rare matted rib:
