Description:
Monthly Special Shooter’s Delight Model 39-2 9MM Auto Pistol

Up for sale and just acquired is this authentic early auto pistol made by Smith & Wesson. The Smith & Wesson Model 39?2 was produced from 1971 to 1983. It is a 9mm, double?action/single?action, semi?automatic pistol built as an improved version of the original Model 39. It features an aluminum?alloy frame, 8?round magazine, 4-inch barrel, and a slide?mounted safety/decocker.
The original Model 39 was the first U.S.-made DA/SA 9mm pistol, developed after WWII for potential military adoption. The 39?2 variant entered production in 1971, incorporating reliability improvements based on user feedback. Production continued until 1983, after which S&W moved toward higher?capacity designs like the Model 59 and later 2nd?generation pistols.
The 39?2 became popular with law enforcement during the 1970s as agencies began transitioning from revolvers to semi?automatic pistols. This specimen was acquired with a few guns that were not used a great deal but were improperly stored-this one picking up some slight surface rust. We have cleaned that off the pistol and there are some residual lessening of the blued finish but areas are smooth to the touch with no pitting. Mechanically excellent with a great bore. The grips on one side were stained but still very sound. The pistol still has some residual oul in spots but we will clean fully before shipping.
Because of this we are offering as a monthly specialist for those who wish a pistol that they are unafraid to take out and shoot at the range. Aesthetics aside this is an excellent opportunity for someone.
The S&W Model 39?2 is a historically significant American semi?auto pistol, bridging the gap between early post?war designs and the modern high?capacity era.
