Here Ancestry Guns presents a High Standard SK-100 “Sport King” Pistol, made circa 1954 in Hamden, Connecticut. The High Standard Mfg. Co. was officially founded in 1926 and in 1932 it moved to a bigger plant in Hamden, Conn., where production began. The Model “B” was directly designed after the Hartford Arms .22 Target Pistol and was High Standard’s first line of firearms. It was made highly successful on the commercial and civilian market as well as military contracts. Especially following Pearl Harbor government contracts are what gave this new company their start in the world of arms. Recruits were given these to practice their marksmanship instead of the .45 caliber 1911 pistol. The “Sport King” was released later on down the road after the Model “B”.
High Standard’s production over the years has been vast. Over time, it mainly produced handguns, including plinkers, target guns, long and short barrels, as well as serious competition pieces. If you’ve ever heard the term “space gun”, odds are good that they were talking about High Standard.
The overall condition is very fine. Original finish. Excellent action. Bright bore with strong rifling. Fine grips. Markings are sharp. The push button for a simple takedown is a great feature!
