High Standard Sport King - 22LR – 6.75" Barrel – 1951 Model – Vintage Holster

High Standard made a number of semi-automatic 22LR pistols for, literally, decades. These were sleek looking pistols that developed a well deserved reputation for reliability and accuracy. During World War II, High Standard produced pistols for training U.S. service members and, after the war, their pistols became very popular with civilian users.

The pistol that we have on consignment is a Sport King (First Model). The serial number of 355465 would indicate production between 1950-1954, with the pistol most likely being manufactured in 1951.

Ours has the 6.75" barrel and fixed front and rear sights. There is no slide hold-open feature which is the norm for the early models. The action is fed by a 10 round magazine with the magazine release being located in the butt of the pistol and not on the grip. The grips are held in place by a single screw, which is also normal for early model Sport King pistols. A very distinctive takedown lever is on this model. Later models would use a button or screw. A manual safety is on the left side of the frame.

The trigger on our pistol is very smooth with a clean break. The bore is good although there is some carbon present, which looks like it would clean up easily enough. The barrel is in Very Good condition. The grips are rated as Good. There is a slight crack on the right grip which does not appear significant but we do feel the need to mention. A photo is also provided. The metal is, in our opinion, Very Good. There is some thinning as expected but mostly in Very Good condition. The most noticeable spot is on the left side of the barrel (photo provided). We see only a very few small spots of pitting on the backstrap of the grip.

Also included is a leather loop holster and we’re not entirely sure what we have here. The holster is worn via belt loops, has a full flap and the flap is held closed by a brass stud. The top of the flap (underneath the strap) is stamped US. The is a two line stamp on the back side of the holster. We are unable to make out the first line. The second line is E.L.T. Based on the patina on the brass fasteners on the holster, we assume that this is a vintage holster and not a reproduction. Beyond that, we can’t clearly identify exactly what type of holster that we have.

If you’re a rimfire fan or a rimfire collector, you likely already have some High Standard models. If you don’t have a High Standard, this one may be for you. Even if you already have some models, this one may fill a hold in your collection. Please take a good look at this very attractive Sport Kind (First Model) and see if it’s one that needs to get added to your collection.

Purchase includes the pistol, (1) 10 round magazine and leather holster as shown.

This is a consignment sale and, like all of our consignments, we have not test fired this pistol. We have performed our function checks and find no mechanical issues with the pistol. The pistol needs to be lubricated for smooth action. As with all pre-owned firearm purchases, please review the photos carefully so that you are comfortable with the condition of the pistol.
