The Ruger Mark I Target (specifically the 5.5-inch heavy barrel version) is a legendary rimfire pistol that solidified Ruger's reputation in the target shooting world. Introduced in 1950 as a specialized version of the standard Ruger Standard model, the Mark I was designed specifically for formal competition and precision plinking. Unlike the tapered "pencil" barrels on standard models, the 5.5" bull barrel provides significant front-end weight. This minimizes muzzle flip and creates a steady "hang" in the hand for target shooting. The Mark I with the 5.5" bull barrel is a favorite among collectors because it was the first "true" Ruger target pistol.
