The Winchester Model 70 in .30-06 Springfield with a 24" barrel is found in high-grade or specialized variants designed to maximize the ballistic performance of this versatile long-action cartridge. While many standard "Sporter" or "Featherweight" configurations use a 22" barrel, the 24" length is standard for the Super Grade models, providing slightly higher muzzle velocity and a longer sight radius. The 24" barrel on the .30-06 Model 70 is designed for hunters who prioritize accuracy and long-range energy. The extra 2 inches of barrel length (compared to standard 22" models) can yield an additional 40–60 feet per second in muzzle velocity, which is beneficial when using heavier bullets for elk or moose. Has a 24-inch free-floating, cold hammer forged steel barrel with a 1:10" twist rate, ideal for stabilizing a wide range of .30-caliber bullet weights. .30-06 Springfield
