Description:
"Serial no. 538925. Manufactured early 1891 by Springfield Armory, chambered in .45-70 Government,32 ½"" round proof-marked barrel. The bore is bright and shiny with strong, well-defined rifling noted throughout. The barrel has aged to a smooth brown patina, while the breech block retains faint traces of original case coloring. Factory markings on the breech and lock plate remain strong and clearly legible. The stock is very good, showing unit markings on the right side “74/113," with a handsome 1892 cartouche present on the left side. The Model 1888 represents the final evolution of the trapdoor rifle, incorporating the integral ramrod bayonet system prior to the adoption of repeating bolt-action arms. The action is tight, mechanically sound, and functions correctly.
