"Serial no. 526190. Manufactured late 1891 by Springfield Armory, chambered in .45-70 Government,32 ½"" round barrel. The bore is bright and shiny with strong, well-defined rifling noted throughout. The barrel is thinning to a brown/grey patina with traces of original blue remaining in protected areas. Factory markings on the breech and lock plate remain sharp and clearly legible. The stock is very good, showing minimal handling impressions with a faint cartouche noted. The Model 1888 represents the final evolution of the trapdoor rifle series, incorporating the integral ram-rod bayonet system prior to the adoption of modern repeating service rifles. The action is mechanically sound and functions correctly.
