Description:
This is an original US WWI Service Coat M1917 in Olive drab Winter Wool manufactured by "LEOPOLD MORSE CO. BOSTON MASS. This coat is complete with all the correct buttons, hooks and insignia. The exterior has, as always, for wool coats of this vintage, a number of small holes with all the buttons being tight, as are the patches. The liner is complete with some signs of light deterioration and is a nice gold brown color. The collar disks and patches tell us this coat belonged to an honorably discharged Corporal in the "104" regiment, (Founded around 14 November 1639) and "Company D" belonging to the 104th Infantry Regiment, which was part of the 26th "Yankee" Division. The 104th was a Massachusetts National Guard unit comprised largely of men from Western Massachusetts and New England. The 104th Regiment of Infantry, Yankee Division where some of the first troops to the battle front and the unit was awarded the Croix De Guerre by the French Government, making it the first American unit decorated by a foreign country. This uniform displays three, left arm, gold chevrons indicating over 18 months on the front, amazing with no wound chevrons on the left arm. Amazing piece of Military history from one of the oldest regiment in American history.;
