Manufactured circa early 1800s and later converted to percussion in the late 1830s, chambered in .75 caliber,39"" round smoothbore barrel. The barrel has aged to a smooth brown patina with visible proof marks. The lock plate is marked “Crown/V.R." with “TOWER" at the rear, indicating government production at the Tower of London. The stock is very good and bears a Broad Arrow with “B.O." marking on the right side, denoting British Ordnance ownership. The Pattern 1839 represents an early standardized British percussion musket, converted from earlier flintlock patterns during the transition period. Initially manufactured with the Hanoverian-style bayonet catch beneath the muzzle, this pattern was later updated in 1844 to the Lovell’s catch, which remained standard until the adoption of the Pattern 1853 Enfield. The musket remains in very good overall condition. The action is mechanically sound and functions correctly. SOLD |
