It features a 5-inch steel barrel and a blued finish on the frame and receiver. The pistol uses a fixed internal magazine loaded from the top with stripper clips and is fitted with wood grips finished in brown. This example represents the classic early semi-automatic design produced by Mauser in Germany during the early 20th century. This pistol is used. The bore condition is described as very good, showing strong rifling with some light fouling. The metal surfaces display a reblued finish with signs of previous buffing and underlying roughness or pitting visible beneath the blue. The serial numbers on the exterior components are mismatched, and the hammer bears an “NS” marking. Crown “U” proof marks are present on the left side of the barrel shank. The wooden grip panels are mismatched and show notable wear. The lanyard ring is absent, and the action functions but cycles sluggishly. Included with the pistol is a reproduction wooden holster that also serves as a shoulder stock. No other accessories or packaging are noted. This Mauser 1896 qualifies as a Curio & Relic (C&R) firearm under federal classification.
