Description:
This Colt 1911 Government Model is a semi-automatic pistol chambered in .38 Super, manufactured in 1937 during the pre-war production era. It features a single-action mechanism and a 5-inch Colt barrel. The frame is finished in parkerized steel, while the slide and barrel are blued. Sighting is provided by a short rounded front blade and a “U”-notch rear sight dovetailed into the slide. The pistol’s overall configuration follows the early commercial .38 Super design, which was introduced by Colt in 1929 as an evolution of the .38 ACP platform.
This pistol is used. It retains its original finish with the combination of parkerized frame and blued upper components. The grips are checkered wood panels with smooth diamond borders, consistent with pre-war Colt styling. The checkering remains well defined, and the grips show no chips or cracks. The bore condition is described as having good rifling for its age, reflecting the durability of Colt’s steel and manufacturing standards of the period. The serial number corresponds to 1937 production, placing it within the early commercial run of approximately 37,000 pre-war Super .38 pistols.
Included with the pistol is one blued magazine marked “Colt .38 Super” on the floorplate. No box or factory paperwork is present. The Colt 1911 Government Model in .38 Super represents a pre-war configuration with original components and finish, produced during the height of Colt’s commercial automatic pistol manufacturing prior to World War II.
