Description:
This is a very rare Simeon North marked US M1819 Hall Rifle Bayonet with Scabbard and belt hanger and according to Robert Reilly in his book "American Socket Bayonets and Scabbards" this may be one of as little as 100 marked M1819 bayonets made at his facility in Berlin, Connecticut. North produced just 5,700 Hall Rifles compared to 19,680 total of Harper's Ferry. This bayonet is very good original condition being clearly marked US over SN on the ricasso, bow shaped tip, 18 7/8" over-all, 2 15/16" socket, T shaped slot, .785" ID back side socket and a 7" face flute. Most interesting of all features is the ring at the rifle side of the socket. It would appear that this example left the factory incomplete, not finished or possibly a demo or prototype. All other examples I have seen do not have this feature. This comes with and original M1839 Scabbard with belt hanger, 19" over-all, brass 3" finial, brass 2 5/8" 2 rivet low soldered brass clip locket. The scabbard is in good+ condition with light crackling leather, light verdigris, loose chape. The belt hanger is still in good+ condition, a bit dry but still pliable. This M1819 Hall rifle bayonet has a place in any collection. ;
