Sauer & Sohn Double Barrel Side by Side Hammerless Shotgun The first Sauer company was founded in 1751 by Lorenz Sauer in Suhl, Thuringia, Germany, this locality being known as Waffenstqadt Suhl in the past because of its many gunmakers. In 1815 Johann-Gottlob Sauer started managing the firm and in 1835 Johann Paul Sauer became manager. It was in 1840 that Johann Paul and his son, Lorenz Sauer created the new name and trademark of J.P. Sauer & Sohn. J. P. Sauer and Sohn is the oldest recorded firearms manufacturer in Germany and is still active today. This example is still in good shape and locks up tight. A great choice if you are looking for a historic maker of fine guns. Whether you wan to hunt or just display, this might be for you. 16 Gauge
