The Winchester Model 1894 stands among the most legendary lever-action rifles ever produced, and this authentic 1914 production example chambered in the highly desirable .38 WCF (.38-40 Winchester) represents a remarkable surviving piece of early American firearms history.
Designed by the legendary John Moses Browning, the Model 1894 became synonymous with the American frontier, sporting heritage, and classic Winchester craftsmanship. More than a century later, early-production rifles such as this continue to command strong collector interest due to their historical significance, increasingly limited availability, and timeless mechanical design.
This rifle was manufactured in 1914 and features a highly desirable and less commonly encountered 24-inch round barrel configuration paired with a full-length magazine tube. The barrel retains the correct Winchester factory markings, including:
“MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO.
NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A.
PATENTED OCTOBER 14, 1884"
along with the correct “38 W.C.F." chamber designation.
Chambered in the classic .38 WCF cartridge, this rifle represents one of the more sought-after traditional Winchester chamberings and stands apart from the more commonly encountered .30-30 rifles found on today’s collector market. The walnut stock and forend appear to be original American black walnut and remain exceptionally attractive with visible factory checkering, solid wood integrity, attractive grain character, and handling wear fully consistent with an authentic early Winchester of this era.
Adding additional collector appeal, the rifle is equipped with a period tang-mounted peep sight that complements the rifle exceptionally well and enhances both functionality and historical presentation.
