Description: This is a 1st Gen Colt Single Action Army Cavalry revolver chambered in 45 Long Colt with a 5.5" barrel. The left side of the frame is marked "PAT SEPT 19 1871, JULY 2 72, JAN 19 75 / U.S." The bottom of the frame has an inspector initials "D.F.C" for David F. Clark, a U.S. Ordnance sub-inspector at the Springfield Armory between 1880 and 1887, along with the serial number "70963". The top of the barrel is marked "COLT'S PT FA MFG HARTFORD CT USA" with a serial number found under the ejection rod of "7204" and inspected by "J" for W.W. Johnson. The revolver went through a military refurb at some point and at this time the barrel was shortened to 5 1/2". The loading gate is marked "3148". The trigger guard has a serial number "3402" with an inspectors mark of "A" for O.W. Ainsworth. The backstrap has a serial number "5284" with an inspectors mark of "A" for O.W. Ainsworth. The cylinder is marked with a partial serial "7720" with the inspectors initial of "C" for A.P. Casey. The front sight is a quarter round blade fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a V groove cut into the top of the frame. The grips are two piece smooth walnut. This gun comes with a historical research paper about dates and places of serial numbers found on the gun "Not a Colt paper", and an invoice showing some work the previous owner done. .45 Colt SOLD Antique: Yes Chambers: 6 shot revolver. Metal Condition: The finish shows various stage of age and wear with trace amounts of finish left. Wood Condition: "The grips are in good condition and might have been reworked at some point, as they are a bit undersized. No gouges or dents. Bore Condition: "The rifling is weak, but visible.
