Description:
An outstanding Remington Model 81 “Woodmaster” semi-automatic rifle chambered in 35 Remington. It has a 22" barrel with an excellent bore. Serial number is 620, produced in 1936, the first year of Model 81 production. This is a fine old vintage rifle with no problems. It is in excellent used condition and shows the signs of light, careful use over the last 90 years. It is in its original factory configuration and unaltered, just as it came from the factory except for the addition of a folding rear sight and a Lyman Model 41 receiver sight. Both those sights are period correct and appear to have been added early in the life of the rifle.Receiver and barrel have 98% of the original blue with maybe some faint wear showing along the edges and the carry points of the receiver. There are no sign of rust anywhere, not even minor freckling. The bluing has aged to a pleasant brownish-plum color The stamped barrel and receiver markings are very crisp. The walnut stocks are also in fine condition with the original factory finish intact, never sanded, all wood is proud to the adjoining metal. There are a few shallow scratches and minor marks and a few spots where the finish has flaked; definitely no deep gouges, splits, or cracks. The rifle carries the original factory front bead. The stock has the Remington checkered steel butt plate it left the factory with and it is also free of any rust. Bore is bright with strong riflig and not a hint of corrosion. The action cycles smoothly and locks up tight. In summary, a beautiful old Remington rifle in great condition that would be tough to improve on. I will ship UPS Ground in a new padded gun case, for $55, anywhere in the continental U.S. to a valid FFL or C&R holder. Shipping to Alaska or Hawaii will be additional.
