The Geo. H. Daw & Co. Deluxe Hammer Side-by-Side is an exceptionally attractive and highly desirable English 20 gauge antique hammer gun, combining elegant Victorian-era styling with the significant advantage of modern London nitro reproof. Lightweight, refined, and mechanically well-preserved, it represents a fine example of classic London sporting gun craftsmanship.
Built by Geo. H. Daw & Co. of London, this antique-status shotgun features a traditional top-lever sidelock hammer action with double triggers and extractor, maintaining all of the charm and mechanical character associated with high-quality English hammer guns.
Chambered in 20 gauge with 2.5" chambers, the gun is fitted with 28" Damascus barrels choked approximately Modified (.020") and Modified (.022"), providing versatile field performance while retaining the elegant profile expected of a lightweight English game gun. Weighing only 5 lb 13 oz, the gun is exceptionally lively in the hands and ideal for upland carry. The concave rib with silver front bead provides a traditional and instinctive sight picture.
A major highlight of this shotgun is its London nitro reproof status. The barrels have been professionally reproofed for 65mm (2.5") chambers, nitro proof, and 950 BAR service pressure, making this an especially desirable antique double for shooters seeking both historical appeal and modern proof certification.
This example remains in very good overall condition, showing only faint wear typical of age and careful use. The bores are clear, the triggers are crisp, the hammers are strong, and the action is smooth and locks up tight.
The blued sidelock action features tasteful scroll engraving, with the maker’s name inlaid in gold on either side. The Damascus barrels remain a major visual highlight, while the maker’s name and London address are inlaid in gold on the top rib, adding further refinement and prestige.
The gun is stocked with a beautifully figured straight-grip walnut stock and splinter forend, both retaining sharp checkering. A leather-covered recoil pad completes the elegant London sporting aesthetic.
