Description:
1840's Spanish smoothbore percussion rifle with a cut down and flared 12 1/4" steel smoothbore barrel fitted with replacement hand hewn and carved stocks. The barrel features silver inlay reading " En Eibar ...(illegible) Gabilando Ano 1840." The lock is marked "En Eybar" with a cornucopia engraving. The hammer is casted in the shape of a griffin. The trigger guard is engraved with floral designs. The bore size and condition is unknown.

While mechanical functioning, the nipple is cracked and crushed. The barrel and lock appear to be original to each other however, the barrel has been cut down significantly and flared at the tip. The stocks appear to have been made to fit the lock and barrel. It is unknown when this retrofit took place. The buttstock is decorated with a German silver panel across the top affixed using small tacks.  A great decorative wallhanger.
