These models prioritize a snag-free design with bobbed hammers to prevent catching on clothing during draws, complemented by ergonomic Hogue rubber grips that enhance handling and mitigate felt recoil. Their alloy construction offers a lightweight yet robust platform, with a traditional double-action/single-action trigger system providing a heavy initial pull for safety, transitioning to crisp follow-ups. Aimed at law enforcement backups and civilian defense, the series blends classic reliability with subcompact portability, featuring low-profile Novak sights for quick target acquisition in close-quarters scenarios. Production of this firearm began in 1998 and continued until 2006. The Chief's Special positioned itself in the handgun market as a premium metal-framed option during the shift toward polymer dominance, offering shooters a familiar DA/SA experience in a concealable package that excelled in reliability and practical accuracy for defensive use.
