Description: Completed between 1901 and 1915 according to page 98 of Nigel Brown's "British Gunmakers Volume One: London", likely made by Webley & Scott on behalf of Army & Navy C.S.L. Built with blued steel barrels with a single bead sight on the smooth game rib which is marked "ARMY & NAVY C.S.L. LONDON", period London proof marks, import mark on right tube, and chambers measured 2 1/2 inches with ejectors. The barrels are fitted to the casehardened back-action sidelock action which displays attractive scroll engraving around "ARMY & NAVY C.S.L." signatures on either side before continuing onto the toplever, trigger guard, and both tangs. The gun features double triggers, bushed firing pins, and a tang mounted automatic safety. The gun is fitted with a beautifully figured and multi-point checkered splinter forend with engraved casehardened iron and release as well as a straight grip stock with teardrop carved drop points, blank silver inscription oval, and a serrated butt. Includes a maker's lightweight canvas case with burgundy baize lining, an oil bottle, 12 gauge snap caps, and cleaning tools. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech measured .617/.621 inches; choke constriction .001/.030 inches; minimum wall thickness .029/.027 inches; 1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 2 inch drop at heel; 14 13/16 inch length of pull; weight 5 lbs. 9 oz. CONDITION: Fine overall, retaining 40% original black finish on the trigger guard, 60% original case colors on the action, 85% reapplied blue finish on the barrels, spotting on the barrels, mild wear, some dings and scratches on the wood, and mostly crisp checkering on the freshened stock and forend. Mechanically excellent. The case is good with some stains and wear.
