Description:

Colt made Approx. 925 Single Action Army Flat Top Target revolvers. Colt Archive services have no record of this serial number. The serial number dates it to 1890 when there were only 161 Target Model Revolvers made. Records of surrounding serial numbers indicate they were 7 ½” SAA Flat Top Target Model revolvers. I have examined the Flat Top frame inside and out with a 30X laboratory microscope and find no evidence of welds or unusual machining marks. I have included lower power photos of the area to assure you that the frame is a legitimate Flat Top Target Model frame.
The Frame & Trigger Guard serial numbers match but the Backstrap is not numbered, and the Cylinder is mis-matched.
The action still passes the spelling click test: C – O – L – T and locks up tight with no movement on any of the six chambers. The mainspring is robust and may have been updated at some point. The bore is bright with deep sharp rifling and only the slightest scattered frosting in the grooves. It remains a very shootable Colt from the black powder era.
The one -piece grips appear to be Ivory as they show the expected grain structure. The consigner reports the grips to be made from Giraffe bone, a non-protected species. It would have fooled me without the disclosure.
With no available evidence of factory engraving, I believe that a proud early owner had the revolver engraved. In 136 years, it passed through many hands, at some point someone may have shortened or exchanged the barrel if it wasn’t a factory 5 ¼” special order.
The revolver is presented in newly crafted case with lock and key.  A brass cleaning rod is included. An 1890 Morgan Silver Dollar enhances the presentation and is included.
Serial Number 132650 .45 Cal. with a 5 ¼” Barrel. Antique, Proof of age & residence required.

It is easy to describe a NEW gun with pictures. Two blurry, poorly lit photos along with the description would suffice. Antique and Collectable firearms are rarely “new” condition. I make every effort to show the flaws in clear detail so that there are no “surprises”.
