EXTREMELY SCARCE TARGET NEW POLICE, .32 N. P. CAL. (.32 S&W LONG), IN EXC.+ CONDITION, #51XXX, MADE 1907. This, along with the New Pocket Model was Colt’s first side-swing cylinder .32 cal. Revolver and was made from 1896-1907 after which it was replaced by the Police Positive. This is an interesting very late variation as serial numbers for the New Police ran to approximately 49500. This one is slightly above that and has the left side of the barrel stamping “COLT NEW POLICE 32” The top of the barrel has the Colt address and later patent date ending in 1905. The right side of the barrel is stamped “POLICE POSITIVE.” The left side of the frame has the “COLT’S NEW POLICE” circular stamping around the rampant colt. I have seen this before on very late New Police .32 revolvers. A most interesting dual marked transition New Police! The Target Model New Police is extremely rare with very few made and almost never encountered. Even the .32 Police Positive is scarce, but not like the New Police Target. In the last few decades I’ve only seen a few of these. This is the finest I’ve encountered. It retains about all the early high polish Colt blue with only some light cloudiness/thinning of the blue on the grip straps which is minor. Exc. bright fire blue on the trigger sides and hammer back. Grips are excellent, action is very tight with strong springs and minty bright bore. This revolver came with a tag that stated it was shipped to V. S. Brown in Pittsburgh on 4/20/07 with 5 other guns. One can search for years and not find a New Police Target Model in any condition.
