Description:
The inclusion of a custom 27-inch E.F. Hoffman barrel explicitly connects this rifle to the golden era of mid-20th-century American custom gunsmithing and high-velocity wildcat development. This specific barrel stamp identifies your custom Remington 1917 as a bespoke creation of E.F. Hoffman, a highly skilled, localized custom gunsmith and barrel maker who operated out of Texas (primarily the Houston/Pasadena area) during the mid-1900s. E.F. Hoffman was part of a revered post-WWII generation of custom gunsmiths. Unlike large factories, he cut individual premium-grade rifle barrels to exact client specifications, often tailoring them for long-range varminting, benchrest shooting, or custom wildcat hunting. The 27-inch length was chosen intentionally to give slow-burning magnum powders enough time to completely burn, squeezing maximum velocity out of the custom case. Rifles featuring verified E.F. Hoffman barrels are highly prized by collectors of vintage Texas gunsmithing and custom post-war sporterized military rifles. They are valued for their exceptional period-correct craftsmanship rather than standard military-surplus value. Because this is a true gunsmith wildcat it would be recommended to have a gunsmith pour Cerrosafe into the chamber to get an exact mold of the neck, shoulder, and rim dimensions. None
